On Sundays and August 15th, from 11 August to 8 September, Curiosi di Natura proposes “Pleasures of the Carso – Summer 2024”: five walks to experience the nature, the culture and the gastronomy of well-known and less well-known localities of the Carso.
As you take in the spectacular seascapes, woods and cultivated areas, the local environment and ecology are illustrated by our Curiosi di natura guides, together with live readings (in Italian) of poetry, literature, history and culture.
The excursions are all slow-paced, along shaded paths, and are suitable for persons of all ages and fitness levels, in normal physical condition.
Also, every day until September 15, participants will be able to taste typical dishes at local restaurants at a discounted price. On signing up for the excursion, in fact, each participant will receive a 10% discount coupon valid for two persons at the “Sapori del Carso” restaurants.

SUNDAY 11 AUGUST "Trebiciano, village alleys and stone houses"
A walk with Milena Padovan and Alina Carli, experts on the hamlet’s history. Walk along the village alleys, see the houses with stone walls and roofs, the Carso dry stone walls and fields, with the old place names carved in stone. To discover the hamlet’s stories, legends and traditions.
Meeting venue: square in Trebiciano, church of Sant’Andrea. Bus n. 51 from Trieste.

THURSDAY 15 AUGUST "Opicina, on the edge of the Carso, overlooking the city"
A walk through the woods amid the karstic phenomena and landmarks of Triestine history, with views of the sea at sunset. With themed readings. To learn about the geology, nature and history of the Carso and the city.
Meeting venue: Opicina Obelisk. Buses n. 2/ or 4 from Trieste.

SUNDAY 18 AUGUST "The vineyards of Prepotto (Aurisina)"
A walk from San Pelagio to Prepotto, with views over the gulf and the Carso at sunset. Walk led by Curiosi di Natura guides and the expert Willj Mikac, who will tell us about cultivating native vines in relation to the environment in which they grow.

SUNDAY 1 SEPTEMBER "Prosecco and its Sculpture Park"
A walk in the Sculpture Park created by artist Robin Soave, who will guide us in our discovery of the sculptures he created using stone, marble, wood and other materials, located in a large meadow. At the end on the visit, a walk along the edge of the Carso plateau to take in the views.
Meeting venue: Prosecco War Memorial (close to the chemist’s). Buses n. 42 or 44 from Trieste.

SUNDAY 8 SEPTEMBER (18.30-22.30) "Sunset in Basovizza, from grassland to the stars"
Excursion along the edge of the Carso plateau, looking down over the city at sunset. Return towards Basovizza with a stop for a picnic in the fields, while waiting for darkness to fall. The astrophysicist Giulia Iafrate from the Astronomical Observatory of Trieste will then illustrate the celestial dome and the constellations. Return at about 22.30).
Meeting venue (18.15): Basovizza Synchrotron large parking lot, at the bus stop for bus n. 51 from Trieste.
