On Sundays, from 7 August to 4 September, Curiosi di Natura propose “Pleasures of the Carso – Summer 2022”: four walks to experience the nature, the culture and the gastronomy of well-known and less well-known localities of the Carso.
As you take in the spectacular seascapes, woods and cultivated areas, the local environment and ecology are illustrated by our Curiosi di natura guides, together with live readings (in Italian) of poetry, literature, history and culture.
The excursions are all slow-paced, along shaded paths, and are suitable for persons of all ages and fitness levels, in normal physical condition.
Also, every day until September 30, participants will be able to taste typical dishes at local restaurants at a discounted price. On signing up for the excursion, in fact, each participant will receive a 10% discount coupon valid for two persons at the “Sapori del Carso” restaurants.

SUNDAY 7 AUGUST “The old village of Aurisina and its history” A culture walk through the alleys, courtyards and quaint corners of Aurisina, accompanied by Gabriela Caharija, vicepresident of SKD – Slovenian Cultural Centre “Igo Gruden”, and an expert on local history. With themed readings. To learn about life as it used to be, through stories and testimonies.
Meeting point: square in Aurisina (San Rocco Church). Bus n. 44 from Trieste.

SUNDAY 14 AUGUST “Bazzoni Wood and the Black Cave” A walk across Bazzoni Wood, the result of black pine reforestation efforts in the late 19th century, as far as the Black Cave and the botanical collection of the Experimental Plot. Return along the Carso ridge, with splendid views of the sea and Rosandra Valley. With themed readings.
Meeting point: Foiba of Basovizza. Bus n. 51 from Trieste to Basovizza town centre; then a 10’ walk.

SUNDAY 28 AUGUST “Star gazing on Mount Cocusso” CANCELED - IN ITS REPLACEMENT: "Between Lipica and Gropada gazing the stars" A slow-paced excursion (approx. 8 km), between the woods and karst meadows, starting from the former border to Lipica. Dinner at leisure (packed or at a pub in Gropada). After sunset, the astrophysicist Giulia Iafrate of the Trieste Observatory will illustrate the celestial dome and constellations. Return with electrical torches along the forest track (arrival around 22.30 h).
Meeting point: parking area at the ex border crossing at Lipizza.

SUNDAY 4 SEPTEMBER “Monrupino Stronghold – Tabor amidst nature and poetry” A walk in the woods between Repen and the Tabor, talking about geology and nature. While taking in the extensive views from the stronghold in the magic sunset light, reading of poetry and literary fiction. Return to Repen along the village streets. Followed by free tastings of gastronomic specialities and wine from the Carso at the restaurant Krizman (until around 21.30 h).
