From 3 April to 12 June, Curiosi di Natura propose “Pleasures of the Carso – Spring 2022”: seven walks to experience the nature, culture and gastronomy of well-known and less well-known localities of the Carso surrounding Trieste and Gorizia.
As you take in the spectacular seascapes, woods and cultivated areas, the local environment and ecology are illustrated by our Curiosi di Natura guides, together with live readings (in Italian) of poetry, literature, history and culture.
Initiative within the "Springtime Gentle Mobility" project promoted by Alleanza per la Mobilità Dolce (A.Mo.Do.) with the main Italian associations involved in gentle mobility.
The excursions are all slow-paced, along mainly flat paths, and are suitable for persons of all ages and fitness levels, in normal physical condition.
Also, every day (Easter Day excluded) until June 26 participants will be able to taste typical dishes at local restaurants at a discounted price. On signing up for the excursion, in fact, each participant will receive a 10% discount coupon valid for two persons at the “Sapori del Carso” restaurants.

SUNDAY 3 APRIL “From Aurisina to San Pelagio” From Aurisina village with its typical Carso stone houses up to the Austro-Hungarian war cemetery and the San Pelagio wine-growing area. A walk though the woods, amidst rain-eroded rocks, dolinas and caves with views over the Carso plateau and the sea. With themed readings.
Meeting venue: 9.10 am, square in Aurisina (Church of S. Rocco). Bus 44 from Trieste.

EASTER MONDAY 18 APRIL “From Repen to Mount Lanaro” Through the woods among the flowering peonies up to the top of the hill with its wild irises and spectacular views of the Carso. An itinerary that is both varied and interesting for its landscapes and flora.

SUNDAY 1 MAY “Meadows between Banne and Trebiciano” Discover biodiversity as you walk across wildflower meadows during the peak of the flowering period. Following the walk, a guided plant tour led by pharmacist Stefania Muran of the herbal laboratory “The Officinal”.

SUNDAY 15 MAY “Redipuglia and Mount Sei Busi” A walk on the hill above the Redipuglia War Memorial. A flat itinerary across Carso wildflower meadows in full bloom, amidst smoke bushes with their feathery plumes, trenches and dolinas

SUNDAY 22 MAY “The Sage Trail and Mount Babica” On the International Day for Biological Diversity, this walk takes us along the Carso ridge across woods and screes dotted by bright purple sage flowers. With extensive views of the Gulf and themed readings.
Meeting venue: 9.10 am, junction between Provincial Road n. 1 and the Coast road, close to the S. Croce sports grounds. Bus 44 from Trieste.

SUNDAY 5 JUNE “Dolinas and Stone Huts at Basovizza” An easy trail through shady woods, amidst mystery-shrouded dolinas and stone huts, once used as shelters by shepherds and peasants.
Meeting venue: 9.10 am, Padriciano parking area along Provincial Road n. 1, at the turn-off for the Synchrotron. Bus 51 from Trieste.

SUNDAY 12 JUNE “From the Carso to Miramare” A scenic walk from the ridge of the Carso, across woods and vineyards along paths and steps leading down to Miramare. An area of major historical and cultural importance and one of the Region’s geosites.
Meeting venue: 9.10 am Prosecco, square close to the big car park. Bus 42 and 44. Arrival: 1 pm at Grignano harbour. Return to Trieste: bus 6, or ferry service, or on foot back up to the departure point.
