On Sat 1 May and Sundays from 2 May to 20 June, Curiosi di Natura propose “Pleasures of the Carso – Spring 2021”: walks to experience the nature, culture and gastronomy of well-known and less well-known localities of the Carso surrounding Trieste and Gorizia.
As you take in the spectacular seascapes, woods and cultivated areas, the local environment and ecology are illustrated by our Curiosi di Natura guides, together with
live readings (in Italian) of poetry, literature, history and culture.
The excursions are all slow-paced, along mainly flat paths, and are suitable for persons of all ages and fitness levels, in normal physical condition.
Also, every day until June 30 participants will be able to taste typical dishes at local restaurants at a discounted price. On signing up for the excursion, in fact, each participant will receive a 10% discount coupon valid for two persons at the “Sapori del Carso” restaurants.

SATURDAY 1 MAY “From Basovizza to Mount Spaccato” Pine forests, caves, dolinas, pastures and
views of Trieste. With live thematic readings: Julius Kugy, Karel Capek...
Meeting venue:
9.10 am at the bus stop for bus n. 51 in the main parking lot of the Synchrotron, Basovizza (Trieste).

SUNDAY 2 MAY (at morning, canceled for bad weather) and WEDNESDAY 2 JUNE (16-19.30) “Along the Carso ridge from the Obelisk to Conconello” Through pine forests, woods and meadows, to look down onto the city laid out before you like a map. With views of the Gulf and Istria and readings on Trieste of the past.
Meeting venue: 15.40 at the parking lot at the main junction in Opicina. Buses n. 2 and 4.

SUNDAY 9 MAY “From Monrupino to Mount Orsario” A walk in the Natural Reserve up to the summit of Mount Orsario. Through the woods, amidst spectacular rocky outcrops and stretches of stones eroded by the rain. The view from the top spans from the sea to the Julian Alps, the Istrian Peninsula and the Carso.
Meeting venue: 9.10 am at the bus stop for bus n. 42 at Zolla, at the junction leading to Monrupino Sanctuary.

SUNDAY 16 MAY “Natural Reserve of Mount Lanaro” Through the oak and hornbeam woods, amid
the peonies and wild irises, a walk up to the top of the mountain to enjoy a magnificent view of the Carso.
Meeting venue: 9.10 am, parking area at the junction for Sagrado (Sgonico).

SUNDAYS 6 and 13 JUNE “San Martino del Carso” On the Carso plateau around the village made famous by Ungaretti’s poem. Across woods and meadows, to see the spring blossoms and sites of World War I: trenches and memorials, including a monument to Filippo Corridoni. With live thematic readings.
Meeting venue: 9.10 am, Piazza della Fontana, San Martino del Carso (Sagrado).

SUNDAY 20 JUNE “At Duino, Mount Ermada and Cave of the Mithraeum” Along the slopes of Mount Ermada, amidst views of the Gulf, feathery smoke bushes and karstic rocks, down to the Cave of the Mithraeum, with the temple devoted to the god Mithras, a cult from Asia Minor that became popular in ancient Rome.
Meeting venue: 9.10 am, Conad Gran Duino. Bus n. 44 from Trieste and n. 51 of the Gorizia APT bus service (Ronchi airport – Trieste line).
