On Sundays, from 9 August to 4 October, Curiosi di Natura propose “Pleasures of the Carso – Summer 2020”: seven walks to experience the nature, the culture and the gastronomy of well-known and less well-known localities of the Carso around Trieste and Gorizia.

As you take in the spectacular seascapes, woods and cultivated areas, the local environment and ecology are illustrated by our Curiosi di Natura guides, together with live readings of poetry, literature, history and culture.

The excursions are all slow-paced, along shaded paths, and are suitable for persons of all ages and fitness levels, in normal physical condition.

Also, every day until September 27, participants will be able to taste typical dishes at local restaurants at a discounted price. On signing up for the excursion, in fact, each participant will receive a 10% discount coupon valid for two persons at the “Sapori del Carso” restaurants.

SUNDAY 9 AUGUST and 13 SEPTEMBER "From Duino to the Mithraeum and the Rilke Trail" A walk led by a nature guide and a tour guide up to the Cave of the Mithraeum, with its temple devoted to the god Mithras, a cult that originated in Asia Minor and spread across the Roman Empire. Return to Duino for a walk along the suggestive Rilke Trail.
Meeting venue: in front of Duino Castle. Bus n. 44 from Trieste and n. 51 of the APT Gorizia bus service.

SUNDAY 16 AUGUST and 20 SEPTEMBER "Prosecco, through the woods overlooking Miramare" On the Carso rim, among the pine trees, oaks, rocky screes with fragrant savory shrubs, and clearings overlooking the beautiful Miramare promontory. With live readings (in Italian).
Meeting venue: Prosecco War Memorial (close to the chemist’s). Bus n. 42 and 44.

SUNDAY 30 AUGUST: CANCELED FOR BAD WEATHER - POSTPONED TO 4 October (7.00-10.30 am) "Sunrise on the Rilke Trail"
Sunrise walk along the panoramic trail that inspired the works of poet Rainer Maria Rilke, to admire the cliffs and the gulf that light up with the rising sun. With live readings (in Italian).
Meeting venue: 6.45 am, Sistiana Infopoint (at the start of the Rilke Trail).

SUNDAY 27 SEPTEMBER (CANCELED FOR BAD WEATHER) "World War I Park in Monfalcone" Across pine forests and meadows with fragrant savory shrubs, up to the Castle that dominates the plain and the Carso. Trenches and fortifications from WWI, with readings of the personal accounts of soldiers on the two fronts that fought each other on these sites.
Meeting venue: Monfalcone Town Hall. Can be reached by bus and train.
